Update, March, 2012: When Confluency Solutions started tracking local search visibility within the independent insurance agency universe over two years ago, more than 80% had not claimed their Google Place page, let alone other local search engine listings. Today, that number has dropped to about 65% – a big improvement but there are still many insurance agents who are missing low hanging fruit. Google has made some significant changes to their local search algorithm and the placement of results in search listings – local results often trump organic search results and it is hard for the casual web searcher to distinguish between the two. Those agencies that rank well in local search have gone beyond simply claiming their Google Place listing…they are capturing reviews, beefing up information about their agencies and including photos and videos that will capture the interest of insurance seekers.
